Alpenpark Turracher Höhe

The Turracher Höhe is situated in the Nock Mountains, the western part of the Gurktaler Alps in the province of Carinthia. Carinthia is Austria’s southernmost province and is primarily known for its many lakes as well as its majestic Höhe Tauern mountain range. Its high position in the mountains and its many snow canons covering the whole area guarantee perfect ski conditions for the whole of the winter season which begins at the end of November and ends at the beginning of May.

If you are looking for a great winter holiday you are in the right place in Turracher Höhe. It is a small but beautiful family-oriented ski area and at the same time has a variety of attractions for all winter sport enthusiasts. The resort is also known for its attention to detail in terms of extra-skiing activities such as cross country skiing (around the Turracher See there are 25 km of well prepared cross country ski tracks  some of which even cross over the frozen lake), ice skating, winter hiking, shoe hiking, curling etc.

Turracher Höhe offers the ultimate skiing experience for beginners, pros, carvers and snowboarders with all the modern comforts - great slopes (40 km of ski terrain) at even greater altitudes (between 1400 m and 2200 m) and modern luxurious cable cars and lifts (14 in total including a new cabin lift and chairlift) which ensure that you never have to queue and you can spend all your time skiing.

The area is a part of the Murtal Ski Mountains which include 7 ski areas (15 – 35 km piste with in total around 150 km of piste at heights of between 1200m and 2200m. For those who don't find this challenging enough, they can drive to the nearby Obertauern area with 120 km of ski terrain. This is also a snow-sure ski area and offers good skiing for every standard.

In the summer you can also have a very enjoyable stay here. Turracher Höhe is popular as a base for walks in the wooded surrounding area as well as mountain biking, rafting on the Mur, tennis, fishing in Lake Turracher See, horse riding and trekking in Bad Kleinkirchheim. And if you don’t feel like being particularly active, why not sit on a terrace of one of the hotels around the lake, visit a mountain farm or the make a trip to the Alpine Art Gallery Museum or the Nockberg National Park. You can also find a variety of shops, restaurants, a discothèque and a number of bars locally. For the golfers there are 18-holes golf courses at half an hour’s drive away in Bad Kleinkirchheim and Murau.
