Les Hauts de Veysonnaz

Veysonnaz, 11 kilometres from Sion is a typical Wallis/Valaisan mountain village with an old centre of dark brown wooden houses.  It is situated on a “balcony” above the Rhone Valley and offers you a fantastic panoramic view over the Alps.  In the village you can find restaurants, a tea room, cafes, bars, bar-discothèque, shops, sport-boutiques, ski school, ski hire and not forgetting the indoor swimming pool with free entry.

 

Veysonnaz is situated at an altitude of 1300 metres in the enormous ski area “Les 4 Vallées” of which the fashionable ski village Verbier is part.  It is the largest ski area in Switzerland with 100 lifts and 400 km of slopes.  It offers wintersport with unlimited possibilities and is suitable for both the beginner and the expert crack.  You will find the highest ski station on the Mont Fort 3328 m.  Most runs are not too difficult but in the areas around Verbier there are several very challenging descents.  The brand new cabin lift which came into use in December 2005 takes you from the village in just a few minutes to the higher slopes.  The “Piste de l’Ours” is the well known valley descent to the centre of Veysonnaz.  This run is also a famous a world cup run.

 

This is a magnificent area beautiful walks through the woods and over the mountain pastures.  For the British, Veysonnaz is best known for its skiing but in the summer, when the peace returns, it can also enjoyed as a holiday destination.
