Alpenchalets Klippitz

The Region

 

Carinthia is one of the best all-season regions in Austria. Because of its position on the south side of the Alps, it is often sunny and warm here. Klippitztörl is in the borough of Bad St Leonhard in the well-known Lavanttal. This is one of the most attractive valleys in Southern Austria especially in the spring with the wonderful smell of the thousands of fruit trees, or in June/July when the rhododendrons flower and, in their masses, give the appearance of a light red carpet.

 

The area has a varying landscape and there many different things to see. As well as boasting its magnificent nature, Carinthia is a treasure trove of cultural wealth with its impressive castles and beautiful historic towns such as Villach and Klagenfurt.

 

The charming, historic town of Bad St Leonhard with its spas, delightful restaurants, shops and culture, and Wolfsberg, the capital of the Lavanttal region of Carinthia are only 15 minutes drive away and definitely worth a visit.

 

Winter

 

Klippitztörl, along with Innerkrems, Turrach and Katschberg is one of the top ten ski areas in Carinthia. It has almost 30 km of piste with more than enough challenging and variable descents, at snow-sure heights of between 1,450 and 1,820 metres. As this ski area is so popular for day tourists from Graz and Klagenfurt, the infrastructure is sophisticated. Snow cannons guarantee that the pistes are in excellent condition from the middle of December to well into the spring. The area is excellent for families with children or nature lovers who don’t only come for the skiing. You can have many fantastic walks in this area and really enjoy the ambience here. For the cross country skiers there is a track at 1,800 metres.

 

Summer

                 

The region offers extensive sports and leisure activities. The recreation park at St Andraer See has a 3.5 hectare swimming lake with a diving platform, slides and sunbathing spots. All sorts of activities are organized for children and there is a playground and midget golf available. The many holidaymakers, who visit Carinthia in the summer, come for the fantastic watersports activities on any one of the 220 lakes for which the province is rich. The temperature of the water can reach to 25 degrees. This is because the surrounding mountains provide shelter from the wind and the supply of fresh and mostly cold currents is minimal.  Klagenfurt on the Wörthersee, with its charming restaurants and terraces by the water, is only 40 kilometers drive away.

 

Accessibility

           

The best option is to fly from London’s Stansted Airport to Klagenfurt or Graz. The drive from both places to Klippitztörl is around an hour. It is possible to fly to these destinations from other UK airports but only indirectly.

 

Alternatively you can fly into Salzburg Airport from all over the UK. This is almost 3 hours drive from Klippitztörl.

 

The closest train station is Wolfsberg, 12 km away.
